As far as overpriced super soft tee shirts go, this one is up there on my wish list.

Bermuda, Bahama

My vision for spring and summer involves baggy bermuda shorts (with soft oxford shirts sexily unbuttoned and messy hair up and aviators and....well, sun.) But I worry that on my barely 5 foot frame, bermuda shorts will make me look stumpy, which is why I usually wear short shorts. Thoughts?

Prison chic? No such thing.

I read this article today about Fall trends looking like prison outfits. Frankly, I don't much see what the article is talking about. The stripes just look like normal stripes to me.

The intersection of fashion with prison is fairly offensive, and this little snippet of fashion journalism is just sort of tired, at best. There is nothing fashionable or funny about prison.

Let's just all agree that if the article is right (please don't let this happen, god), and if "prison" really does become a "look," that we can resume this discussion in the form of protest.

Never thought I'd say this but...that is a gorgeous pillow.

I probably wouldn't have the guts to wear these but....I still want 'em!

Still jonesing for a backpack and this would be a prime contender (but for the price, of course).

AK Vintage

While the prices are a bit out of my range, AK Vintage has some wonderful pieces - I'm especially loving these earrings.

I love me a clog. Not every one is a fan, and more than one guy has told me he doesn't find them attractive. But after a while of hiding this love, I refuse to deny it any longer - I love clogs, dammit, and I'm not gonna stop wearing them. The clog of my dreams currently? This amazing pair. Perhaps my perfect summer shoe for Summer Loving 2010....

Huh?

Variations on this ugly beast are all over: I DO NOT get this whole "sandals with a thing that covers your ankle" style. It totally ruins the "line" of your leg, is unflattering, and is totally unnecessary. Am I wrong on this?? (This offender from Free People)

Perfect Nameplate Necklace

I mean, the sample one is even in my name - it's meant to be!

Urban Outfitters has some cute dresses on sale right now

Etsy shop Vintage In Bloom has some great stuff

More great finds from Erie Basin, love the idea of cameo rings.

Loving this ruffled/zipper sweatshirt from Free People. A lot of times, their stuff is too "romantic" for me (too many prairie prints/styles and patterns, pastels and rose prints), not to mention seriously overpriced. But occasionally they hit the mark. (ps having looked at the pics again, I think I might like the cream even more than the blue...)

Built by Wendy....for Sarah, obviously!

Totally swooning over the new collection from Built by Wendy. I've never owned anything from them because, well, I don't have money. But I still appreciate their aesthetic and quality (which seems great from what I've touched and seen other people wearing) and dream of the day I can rock it regularly. Also I love it because I associate it with the amazingly stylish NK/Magic, so BBW should really thank her. By giving us both clothes. Till then, I will just steal their inspiration!

The things I love about this collection:

(1) The model wears (albeit better versions of) the three hairstyles I rock: down and messy, up and messy, side ponytail. Yes, yes, yes!

(2) Perfectly ripped jeans a a white tee never get old for me. I remember trying to convince my dad to wear jeans and a white tee shirt on a date when I was a kid because I had decided that was the best outfit for EVERYONE. (And, by the way, I was right. I was also right that Sam Cooke was the best ever. Basically, I was was cooler as a kid than I am now....huh...)

(3) I'm not crazy about the outfit/photo of the woman on the stool, however will always allow a place for cropped/clam digger black pants as a must have of the transitional season. Can a girl get a different shirt in that photo though? Or some colorful shoes?

(4) Um, can we talk about that green jacket? I'm, like, fairly sure that could/might be my first BBW purchase. Perfect color, lots of pockets, nice high collar, and, my personal very-specific requirement, brass NOT SILVER detailing....I haven't been able to look the price up yet because I don't this dream to end. (Dramatic!)

(5) Finally, the white rolled up pants and loose oxford shirt is basically the look I aspire to every spring/summer and never quite hit. This is the year!

Don't know if I'd ever have the guts to wear them but I'm surprised to find myself liking these shoes.

Fashion weak

Well, friends, it's FASHION WEEK in New York! Are you as thrilled as I'm not?!

Admittedly, I would love to "go to a show" and do all that poppycock. I am fascinated by the thought of something being 6' tall and weighing 97 pounds (read: "fascinated," not 'inspired by"). I would love to see Lindsay Lohan humiliated on stage following a line of gazelles in heart-shaped pasties, or Karl f'ing Lagerfeld in a barn full of fake-tattooed 13 year olds. Who wouldn't? But the reality is that I don't think I'd have that much fun (unless I had unlimited access to champagne - but I'd certainly pay back for it the next morning with a hangover - nothing's free in life).

Anyway, after years of thinking that sort of thing would be fun, I've come to construe Fashion Week, and all its accompanying coverage, as little more than a "prettier," thinner version of those blogs that try to tell you what's "appropriate for your work place."

I sort of think they're both agents of conformity, and I just can't get down with that. So, go ahead, put on a few pounds, and then wear the sluttier version of that J. Crew sweater to work.

IT'S OKAY.

Both NK and I agreed that this photo captures a sort of ideal - something about the crisp, clean, slightly preppy clothes and the tattoos peeking out really gets us both... (from Frances May)

NK and I both agreed that this girl's look is great.

Wrap It

NonPlus featured this great Etsy found wrap sweater today, which I'm dreaming of having around me...nothing like a cozy sweater in winter, especially a wrap that you can make nice and snug.

Here are some other wrap sweaters and sweatshirts that would be the perfect addition to my "all comfort, all the time" winter wardrobe:

Dressing for the blues

I've been feeling a little down lately -- nothing in particular, just a combination of work being tough, the weather being unremittingly cold and dark, and maybe some post-vacation emotional malaise catching up with me too. What's not helping is that I've also been experiencing the "I have absolutely nothing to wear" phenomenon. Which is really obnoxious, since I spend approximately all of my disposible income on stuff that I apparently at some point think I'm going to wear.
So, of course, all this prompted me to go on the prowl for, uh, more stuff that I think I'm going to wear.

Since we're betwixt seasons, I can't really go all out and amass a ton of seasonal stuff.

Here are some of the goods I'm considering. I think they can span the seasons.

1. Prairie Underground Moth Coat

I feel like this is a good "throw over whatever and it looks dissheveled in a stylish way" piece. If you disagree, I think you should just pretend you don't, because I think that thowing this over whatever and acting like I'm stylish is going to be my thing for a few months. This would work extra well with my toxicly pink Nars lipstick, jeans, and hair that hasn't been washed or combed in a couple of days.

2. Forever 21 Top

Could I put this somewhere between me and a light black cardigan and look like it's 1993? Well, here's to hoping.

3. Scout Cocktail Dress at Bona Drag

This dress is so pretty. I could wear it under that Moth thing up top, or with a huge obnoxious necklace. Anonymous benefactor, reveal your location!

2 Weddings (& Counting)

So far this summer I have two weddings to attend (both in July) and there are more potentially on the horizon. Last summer I had a great navy blue flouncy dress (from Lulu's) that I rocked at graduation and at two weddings. It is a much-loved dress (and got lots of compliments) but I think it's seen it's last wedding. So it's time for a new dress! Lulu's has got some more wonderful, and affordable, dressing that have been calling my name - what do you think of these? I want something brightly colored and that walks that fine line between sexy and, well, not too revealing for a formal ceremony...
